In our latest Whatnot live show recap, a stunning Alocasia Ninja Mint Variegated caught the eye of kimmariehac, who scored the beautiful plant for $9. This unique variegated variety is a favorite among plant enthusiasts, and it’s easy to see why.
Gobigplants, the seller, shared some interesting insights into the plant’s care. He mentioned that the root ball is large and healthy, and it’s “running” nicely – whatever that means for this experienced seller! He also joked about his own mistakes in plant care, including pushing the wrong button and causing a “fat finger” mistake.
As is often the case on Whatnot, the online community came together to share advice and expertise. In the chat, another viewer mentioned using the “scratch and smoke scarification” method for Mimosa seeds, which apparently worked great. Someone else shared a cautionary tale about an Alocasia melt due to acclimation issues, but happily, the roots are still thriving. A viewer also asked for and received advice on using root riots vs. fluval and perlite for plant care.
With the plant collecting community always eager to share tips and discoveries, it’s no wonder this sale was successful. What do you think of this beautiful purchase? Do you have any favorite plant care hacks or successes to share?
